Fuzzy babies and saving money

The eggs in the backyard finally hatched... we currently have three fuzzy babies and are waiting on two more. They are so cutely ugly!

It's National Credit Union Youth Week, so the Mom brought the boys over to Pen Air to deposit their money from their piggy banks on Monday. Both boys are proud to say they have over $500 in their accounts. They got mood cups and piggy banks for their achievements. And Xan endorsed his first check.

Will as junior announcer

On Sunday, we went to a UWF Military Appreciation baseball game. They are actually the 2011 NCAA Division 2 national champions. Rodney and the boys loved it... Will even got to to be a junior announcer for an inning.

Gulf Breeze Zoo and a rainy Spring Fling

Mom, the boys and I headed to the Gulf Breeze Zoo on Saturday, trying to beat the rain storm that was heading our way so it didn't ruin our outdoor plans. I told Mom about the giraffe at the zoo you could hand feed. It turns out that now that the zoo is under new management, there are actually three giraffes. Mom was able to check something off her bucket list.

After the zoo, we had another stop... the Pen Air Spring Fling. Unfortunately we did not beat the rain this time, but the boys were able to take advantage of that. They got to slip n' slide fully clothed. Here's the video.

May 5 Graduation

As you may have heard, I am graduating with a master's degree in Strategic Communication & Leadership at 2 p.m. central time on Saturday, May 5. I know a lot of my friends and family will not be able to travel to the event, so I am happy to announce that the local public radio station is planning to broadcast the ceremony live online. Here are the details:

On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the UWF Spring 2012 Commencement Ceremonies will be broadcast live by WUWF. A link will be available at http://wuwf.org/ prior to the start of the events.

If you are unable to view the events live, they will be archived for viewing at a later date.

Birthdays and game balls

Will's birthday was yesterday, and although we did most of the celebrating ove the weekend,m he still had some gifts to open. He got to the mail before I got home, so I don't have any photos of him opening cards, but here is one of him opening our gift to him - as you can see he was very excited.

Later that afternoon, Will had a baseball game, where he caught two pop flies in left field. He got the game ball for his effort, and game balls are rarely handed out by this coach.

Another birthday weekend...

Even though Will's birthday isn't until Tuesday, we did our best to celebrate it over the weekend. Saturday was a big day for us. First Xan had a baseball game, and then we headed off to Alabama, to the Loxley Strawberry Festival. This is the third year we've gone... I stocked up on my Flexi 8 clips for my hair since I will be moving to Japan and can only get them on the Internet. Seeing the designs online just doesn't do them justice, so I like to choose them in person.

The kids also had a great time with carnival games and a ride on the Zipper. Xan had to be accompanied by an adult, so, me being the "fun" parent, I got a ride on the Zipper, too. But, Rodney made up for it when he played a carnival game. Click here for the video.

Next, we had lunch at Mellow Mushroom. Then we shopped Old Time Pottery. Then we surprised the kids with a trip to The Track, near Gulf Shores, Ala., where we raced, bumped and golfed to celebrate their birthdays. Good times!

Xan's 6th Birthday and Easter

Because Xan's birthday was Saturday and Easter was Sunday, the photos for the two events kind of ran together... so enjoy!

A pair of birds have laid five eggs in the plant on my back porch again this year. I managed to get a photo of them on the top of our swing set. I found out that they are House Finches.
